A bit overrated. The banh mi we got had very little meat, and the meat was tough and inedible. It was so bad that we decided to eat at the bun cha place across the street.

Bánh Mì Tâm béo - Bread Tam Beo - Bakery in Hanoi
About This Place
On a narrow lane in the Phố Cổ, Bánh Mì Tâm Béo has built a following substantial enough to earn 429 Google reviews and a 4.7 rating — numbers that speak to consistent quality rather than novelty. The address on Hàng Nón places it squarely in the commercial heart of the Old Quarter, where foot traffic is dense and options are plentiful, making sustained praise harder to come by.
The draw is bread in its most direct form: bánh mì made to order, priced for locals rather than tourists. The bakery operates at the pace of the street around it — quick service, no-frills presentation, the kind of place where regulars know their order before they reach the counter. In a neighborhood crowded with phở shops and cà phê trứng cafés angling for visitor spend, this spot maintains a clientele that skews toward Hanoians who've eaten here long enough to have a preferred filling.
Hàng Nón sits within walking distance of Hồ Hoàn Kiếm and the main tourist corridors, but the bakery's pricing and format keep it from feeling like a heritage-district showcase. It functions as a working neighborhood spot that happens to sit inside one of Hanoi's most-visited squares. For visitors, that's part of the appeal — a bánh mì eaten standing on the pavement here feels less curated than the same sandwich at a café a block over. The rating suggests the bread itself justifies the detour.

I've been on a mission to try as many different banh mi as possible during my time in Vietnam. I grabbed the grilled pork banh mi from here for dinner and, as many people have said before, the sauce is delicious and makes this banh mi unique. Reminds me of ranch sauce and it goes so well with the toasted bread, chili and meat. Would definitely recommend trying
Good but not the best, the pickled veggies lacked flavor to complement the pork. Service was good 👍. Ambience is okay, typical Vietnamese setting. No dine-in space available when we arrived, so we opted for takeaway.
Best banh mi that we've had in Hanoi! The combination of flavours from their sauces infused with the pickled vegetables, choice of meat (I went with pork bologna and my wife got their cha siu), and their warmly pressed bread makes it mouth watering. We've been here twice so far, dinner yesterday evening and for breakfast this AM. The shop owner is so friendly and kind, she mentioned her mom also helps her run it from 7am-11pm daily. They clearly work hard. One banh mi can range from 30-50k and personally if I was hungry I would be able to eat 2 but 1 puts me in a comfortable spot to continue exploring Hanoi while leaving space to try other local foods! Although the shop wasn't ready at 7am sharp this morning, it was worth waiting for the owner/staff to get ready because they were also waiting on fresh ingredients to be delivered. Sometimes it's ok to have variations from Google since we rely so much on it. I honestly appreciated that they use fresh bread every day and vegetables from local produce. Came back in 10-15min after a morning coffee and they were ready to take our orders! I'm going to really miss this banh mi when I'm back in Canada! For now, I'll enjoy it as much as I reasonably can 😋
The son doesn't want to be there. He was mad, very arrogant. To the people in front of me, to me and to 2 other Korean women behind me. They just ask how much for the banh mo and the way he answering was really arrogant. His face and body languages said he hate his job. Banh mi, nothing special, banh mi came from the microwave, no vegetables , no pate, no real typical banh mi sauce. Decorating was very poor. Bread not fresh. Would not try again. Wish him best and hope he find his own way
