My first time trying Egyptian food. The servers were wallflowers but the owner is kind. The dining room is lovely, it feels like I'm dining in a grandmother's home and not a stuffy restaurant. The couches are very comfortable, the ac is nice, the space is intimate but still very bright and modern. No idea what the appetizer was, I believe the Egyptian bread fried with a garlic herb yogurt sauce, but it was very tasty. My favorite dish was the molokhya soup. Just barely slimey similar to okra but intensely flavorful with a nice punch of garlic. The cheese sambosak was creamy and light, filled with various peppers. The texture is similar to a creamy feta but with no sour notes. Unsure if it's proper but was even better dipped in the soup. The koshari mawlana was a totally new experience for me. Rice, spaghetti, macaroni, meat, fried chickpeas, friend onion, and green onion an Egyptian street food classic (according to the description). It comes with 3 sauces. A tomato sauce, which really changed the whole profile of the dish for me, a sour, thinner sauce, and another tomato sauce with dried chili on top, though the spice was very muted. The lime and sour sauce add extra dimension to the dish, a must have. The hibiscus was lovely, a familiar mix of sweet and tart. Second favorite dish, the Umm Ali. A delicious bread pudding filled with warm spices topped with raisins, nuts, and coconut. The texture honestly reminded me of oatmeal. Deliciously creamy and not overwhelmingly sweet, the type of dish you finish while I'm the restaurant because it won't be as good putting it in the microwave at home. I'll definitely be returning.
