The Story

About This Place

Vanille Pastry sits on a residential lane off Lý Nam Đế, tucked into the fabric of a Hoan Kiem apartment compound rather than the district's busier café strips. The address — a khu tập thể block — gives it a low-key character that sets it apart from the more visible dessert spots clustered near Hoan Kiem Lake. With 104 Google reviews averaging 4.8 stars, the shop has built a steady following through consistent quality rather than foot-traffic volume. The name points to a French-influenced sensibility, and the cake shop format suggests a focus on craft over throughput — the kind of place locals return to for birthday orders and occasion cakes rather than a quick grab-and-go. Hoan Kiem has no shortage of cafés and dessert counters, but few operate at this rating level with this volume of reviews, which indicates a reliable track record over time. The residential setting likely draws neighbourhood regulars and those making a deliberate trip, giving the clientele a more considered, repeat-visitor character than tourist-facing competitors nearby. Without menu or review detail to draw from, specific standouts remain unclear, but the consistent praise across a meaningful review count points to execution that holds up across visits.

We had our anniversary and I have requested the cake to be delivered at a restaurant. Everything was perfect cake delivered on time and exceeded our expectations. Fresh, extremely delicious, the design was amazing - bubble bobble 80s arcade game. Thank so so much 🙏🙏🙏

An absolute gem! Vanille Pastry is a little haven for anyone who appreciates high-quality desserts. Everything we tried was fresh, beautifully crafted, and perfectly balanced in flavor. The éclairs and fruit tartlets stood out — each pastry felt like a piece of edible art. The atmosphere is cozy and elegant, and the staff are genuinely friendly and attentive. You can tell they truly care about what they do. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys fine European-style pastries and wants to treat themselves to something special. I’ll definitely be coming back!

We had a wonderful desert experience in this little pastry shop. We took the 6 crispy choux and it was amazing !!! It is very crispy on the outside and veryyy creamy in the inside. They have just moved their shop in a small street right next to their old one, so we put pictures to help you find the store. It is a hidden gem ;) The owner and the staff are really nice ! They took care of us and were very friendly. We will come back for sure.

On our last day in Hanoi, Vietnam 🇻🇳, on our way to a restaurant, we walked by a place called Vanille Pastry that advertised the "best tiramisù in town". 🤩 There are approximately 8.5M people in Hanoi 🇻🇳, so it's a bold statement. I personally don't eat tiramisù because I dislike mascarpone, but the rest of the family does so we decided to come back there for dessert. While we were there, we spotted a mouse-shaped cake 🍰. Really cute. 😍 According to the sign, it was supposed to be filled with some kind of mousse. I don't recall the details. We decided to order these 2 things and have them in a café nearby. With the spoon from the coffee we tried to cut the rabbit 🐇 and, since we couldn't, we asked for a knife. The only knife available was the one used to cut coconuts 🥥 and we actually... broke the knife while cutting the rabbit! 😱 It was in fact pure white chocolate 🍫... and a very bad one. 🤢 I dunno what happened. I don't know if that rabbit was supposed to be a decoration for a big cake and it was misplaced, or they just made a (huge) mistake baking it. In any case, that was not edible. 👎 My wife told me the tiramisù was good though but... 🤷 Quality & taste: 0/10 Quantities: 10/10 Atmosphere: n/a Originality: 0/10 Ratio price / quality: 0/10 Service: 0/10 How I felt afterwards: 0/10
