UNSAFE- GOT CHOKED while passing through. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. I was sober and searching for a spot to meet with a friend. I genuinely was so confused. It's a crowded street and there were some tables around overspilling into the street. I at first wanted to sit there and maybe buy a drink; a friend told me he wanted to meet up there later in the night. Making a last second decision to instead pass through and see other bars, I tried to pass through the tables and cut the big line. Another woman was passing through- so I thought. I gave her enough space to pass through and when I reached the exit, I felt hands suddenly on my throat and furious, dark eyes. I'm a solo young traveler in my teens and I was caught off guard because every local I have ever met in Southeast Asia has been so nice and welcoming. What was going on? He choked me for a couple seconds, then pushed me backwards very hard. He told me to exit the path I came. I was in such extreme shock, I didn't even know how to react. I just stared at him at first trying to see if he was drunk or maybe the bouncer and got mad I moved the chair? Whatever the reason, it was clearly an overreaction; I have bruises on my throat. I left to my hostel and then once I processed what happened, I went back to see if there was a misunderstanding because I'm sure there must have been. Once I explained the situation, the man just told me to leave and made a slit throat action. At first he did have an explanation that the woman was his mom. But I didn't do anything aside from give her space to pass. I don't mess around when I'm traveling so I obviously left. But this place is extremely unsafe and was the lowest point in all of my travels. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. BRUISES ON MY NECK FOR WALKING THROUGH THE TABLES.
