Duong's Restaurant - Vietnamese restaurant in Hanoi

We had a wonderful time at Duong's restaurant. We tried the 'Set Menu 1' which included spring rolls, pho, bun cha and chocolate mousse. Every dish was amazing and so flavoursome. The staff were great and showed us how to properly eat bun cha. Everything was really reasonably priced! I would absolutely recommend this restaurant.

Oh man the food is phenomenal. The textures and flavors are so good. One of the best food experiences I have had in Hanoi. The atmosphere is very texted and the service is great.

A restaurant in the Old Quarter, which is also listed in the Michelin Guide, but we were quite disappointed with the experience. First, the staff were okay, and they spoke good English. However, the restaurant itself was very dark, looked quite old, and had many mosquitoes, which made the atmosphere less comfortable. We ordered two dishes: one fusion dish and one traditional dish. The fusion dish was okay, but if you are expecting a large portion or a filling meal, this is not the place. The portion was very small for a fairly high price. It was a salmon carpaccio, but as a sushi lover, I found the salmon quite tasteless. The biggest disappointment was the Chả Cá Lã Vọng. My wife, who is Vietnamese, wanted to introduce this traditional Hanoi dish to me, so she ordered it. However, the fish turned out very mushy. It did not seem unfresh, but the cooking style did not feel traditional. Another issue was the sauce. Traditionally, this dish is eaten with mắm tôm. I understand that some foreigners may not be able to handle the strong smell of fermented shrimp paste, and my wife even asked the staff about this. However, in my opinion, if a restaurant wants to promote a traditional Vietnamese dish, they should give customers a choice. I can handle mắm tôm, and of course my wife can as well. On the menu, it was only written in English as “shrimp paste,” with no clear explanation or warning. Instead, they randomly served us tôm chua (which is a type of shrimp paste from Hue city) while we were eating a traditional Hanoi dish. In my opinion, next time, the restaurant should give a better explanation, include a warning, or offer people a choice. Some customers are here to try the true soul of traditional food, not a changed version just because some foreigners may not be able to handle the original flavor.

We visited Duong’s Restaurant as part of the MICHELIN Guide selection, looking for something a bit different, and it delivered a very enjoyable experience. The restaurant offers both Vietnamese and Western options, which makes it a great choice if you’re in the mood for variety. We started with the summer rolls, which were fresh and well prepared. For mains, we had the salmon and the rack of lamb, accompanied by roasted eggplant on the side. Everything was very good, with well-balanced flavors and solid execution. The purée that accompanied the dishes, along with the vegetables, stood out and complemented the mains particularly well. Overall, a very good option for dining in Hanoi, offering quality food and a varied menu in a comfortable setting.

Delicious and relaxing last dinner in Hanoi. Everything was very good, I order the traditional menu n. 2, with spring and summer rolls, pho (the best I ever ate) and other delicious dishes. Absolutely recommended.
