The hustle bustle never ends. Crossing the road is not for the faint hearted. The night markets are full of stalls selling all the touristy things. Lots of local street food to sample. The streets are full of shops to explore. Or just still around the lake for something peaceful to do.

Beautiful piece of Vietnam. It has a mix of old charm & modern infusion. A collection mis matched buildings with a lot of character & old school charm. I love this city & I would definitely be returning. There are lots of small boutiques stores & mini market stalls, food places, eateries & restaurant & cafes. So much variety and plenty of options you cannot go wrong!
Stayed in Hanoi for a few days, my friend and I visited the Old Quarter and it was one of the best experiences we have had. During the day, we walked along the streets near Hoan Kiem Lake and saw local artists sitting outside drawing portraits. We also came across a flower seller on a bicycle wearing a traditional hat, which was a lovely sight. We saw many stores and street food vendors as well. We stopped at a local cafe and enjoyed drinks with the crowd outside on the footpath. At night, the whole area changed completely. The streets were full of people and we watched a fire performer and other shows in the middle of the road with a big crowd all around. Looking down from above, we could see just how alive this place gets at night. We really enjoyed every moment here and we will definitely come back again.
Tourist and commercial center. Expect loads of shops, eateries, coffee and loads of vendors trying to pull you inside their venue. At times it has a great atmosphere but it can get crowded towards the evening especially around the bar streets. Great atmosphere, Vietnamese people despite the numbers in tourism remain calm and lovely people. Try to support the more local restaurants if you want, try and support the small families.
Hanoi Old Quarter is an amazing place and definitely worth 5. We really loved the look and atmosphere – it’s busy, full of people (including lots of tourists), but that’s exactly what makes it so special. There’s energy everywhere you look. There are plenty of spots to eat and grab a beer, and we ended up sitting in one of them just watching the life of the city go by – motorbikes, locals, the constant movement. It was such a simple thing, but at the same time an incredible experience. One of the highlights of our stay in Hanoi for sure. Highly recommended.
