Mã Mây is one of the Old Quarter's most storied streets — named for the rattan and bamboo traders who once lined it — and Red Bean Ma May has quietly become one of its most trusted addresses for Vietnamese food. With 4.9 stars across more than 1,200 Google reviews, it sits in rare territory: the kind of rating sustained not by novelty but by consistent execution over many visits and many diners.

The restaurant draws the mix typical of a well-run Old Quarter spot — travelers who've done their research alongside Hanoians who return out of habit rather than curiosity. Hoan Kiem offers no shortage of places to eat, but the sheer volume of positive feedback here points to something more reliable than atmosphere or location alone.

Without a full menu or detailed review sample, it would be wrong to single out specific dishes, but the Vietnamese restaurant category in this neighborhood typically means the classics done well: pho, bún dishes, rice plates, and the kind of broth that takes hours. Red Bean Ma May's score suggests it holds its own against the more aggressively marketed spots on nearby Hàng Bạc and Đinh Liệt.

For anyone moving through the Old Quarter and looking for a meal that won't disappoint, the address at 94 Mã Mây is a defensible choice — not a gamble.

we had lunch here on our last day in Hanoi. We were looking for a quiet airconditionned restaurant that served typical vietnamees food were we could spend a few hours before heading to the airport. we had the best lunch in Hanoi and also had the opportinity to taste their cold brew coffee of the house. Excellent service of Anvhu. we can highly recommend this place

The restaurant was excellent. Quiet environment to enjoy your food, local chic design keeping the Vietnamese architecture. The food was a great experience, one dish better than other with the very nice treat from the restaurant with the tea and the rose of apples. The prawns, the rolls were amazing. It was the best restaurant in Hanoi and we also visited some top rated and with stars. And the price very good The staff polite, with right communication and excellent service.well done to all Super recommended

As I stayed on and off at La Siesta Classic Ma May through my travels in Vietnam for three weeks, I tried many dishes from this restaurant in the morning, throughout the day, and in the evening. All dishes were expertly prepared and presented…and delivered with a smile. Speaking from nearly 30 years of experience in hospitality, the team here gets it right consistently. And considering the number and variety of travelers with which they deal, I am very impressed with their skill, efficiency, and consistent kindness. Great job, thank you for many fine experiences throughout my stay.

On the search for Western food, we ended up finding this place. The Western Set we ordered was deliciously prepared and nicely dressed. The Ceasar Salad being one of the most flavourful salads I’ve eaten with a very tasteful dressing, and the cuisine of the meat was also as it should be. Special thanks to our waiter Anh Vu, who was lovely and made sure we had an enjoyable evening.

Thank you Chi, chu, and all the staff that were serving us earlier this evening (31 Mar 2026). The food was great and I am immensely thankful for your help in making my wife's birthday so special. I especially appreciate the handwritten note. It was such a nice touch! Food was great too. Thank you once again :)
