S&L's Diner Duong Thanh - American restaurant in Hanoi

This is the best burger I’ve had anywhere in Vietnam. The meat was delicious!! In my opinion it doesn’t matter how good the burger is, I hate when the bun falls apart and you can no longer hold the burger. This bun was perfect to the very last bite!! I highly recommend this place!!

I visited here during my second day in Vietnam, jet lagged. The workers here are very kind and approachable. The lady showed me the menu and explained that they offer different discounts and deals, for example happy hour where you can get 50% off certain items. I ordered mac and cheese, chicken tenders, and a strawberry spritzer. Everything was great and super flavourful. I definitely plan to come back before I leave Hanoi, and highly recommend!

I was craving some American food so I decided to try this place. It met the need but I think the flavors were overall lacking. It's hard to get good Vietnamese food in America, just like it's hard to get good American food in Vietnam. The flavors and ingredients just aren't the same. Items I tried: Appetizer that consisted of onion rings (good), Mac and cheese bites (good), shrimp bites (good), chicken wings (wing itself was good but the sauce was definitely not Buffalo sauce or anywhere near it, and that's coming from someone who lives near Buffalo). Burger: was more rare instead of the medium that I wanted. Lacked flavor. The meat didn't seem seasoned. Cheese steak: definitely not something close to what one would get in Philly. Not the same bread (was baguette) and the meat didn't have a great consistency. Overall, I don't think I'd try it again. It wasn't anything special that had amazing flavors.

Place was packed but not completely full, and from what we saw, it looked like there were only about 3 servers handling all 3 floors. Not sure if that’s just how it is here, but the service definitely felt stretched because of it. We ordered quite a bit? Lol onion rings, Texas nachos, shrimp popcorn, spaghetti bolognese, barnyard burger, chicken buffalo burger, plus some drinks. Food itself was really good, no complaints there. All of the servers were nice and spoke good English, and our server even gave us a heads up that tax isn’t included in the menu, which we appreciated. It’s just that the experience could’ve been much better if they had more staff. Timing was a bit all over the place. Nachos and shrimp popcorn came out first, then the spaghetti. After around 10 minutes, the chicken buffalo burger arrived, then drinks started coming in (beer, orange juice). After that… we were just waiting. I got my strawberry iced tea, then about 5 minutes later the onion rings came. Everyone was already eating while we were still waiting on the barnyard burger. We had to follow up twice, and it took around 15 more minutes before it finally came out. When the barnyard burger finally arrived, it wasn’t even hot anymore, but the fries on the side were fresh and hot. So maybe they had to cook a new batch of fries and that caused the delay, I’m not really sure. We also noticed other tables experiencing the same thing, waiting longer than expected for drinks or food. Overall, food was good and servers were great, but the service flow fell a bit short, probably just because they’re understaffed.

Again my daughter wanted American food 😮‍💨 so here we are. I must admit the food was really good. The service was good and they told use that taxes are not included in the prices as well as the happy hour special and that you get 50% off certain things. The only negative was that there were little black bugs flying around the food a couple of times and I was getting bitten heaps on my legs. Tbh, I wouldn't return just because of that, it made an uncomfortable dining experience. We got pulled pork loaded fries, carbonara, mac n cheese and chicken strips.
