The Story

About This Place

On a narrow lane in the Old Quarter, Banh Mi 25 has accumulated one of the highest review counts of any food stall in Hanoi — over 16,000 ratings on Google alone, holding at 4.5 stars. That volume is the signal: this is not a place that survives on tourist novelty but one that earns repeat visits from a mix of locals, expats, and travelers who keep coming back to the same counter on Hàng Cá.

The draw is straightforward. Banh mi is the entire focus — the crisp-crust baguette filled with the standard Vietnamese repertoire of cold cuts, pâté, pickled vegetables, and fresh herbs. The operation runs fast and efficiently, which suits the foot traffic of Hoan Kiem's busiest streets. There is no table service, no extended menu, and no atmosphere to speak of beyond the hum of a working street corner.

What separates it from the dozens of banh mi vendors within walking distance is the consistency that 17,000 reviewers appear to have found reliable enough to rate. In a neighborhood where food quality can vary sharply stall to stall, that track record matters. The address on Hàng Cá sits inside the dense grid of the Phố Cổ, close enough to Hoàn Kiếm Lake to work as a stop on a longer walking route through the quarter. For anyone prioritizing time and a known quantity over exploration, this counter delivers exactly what it advertises.

Really loved this bánh mì place! The bread was perfectly crispy but still easy to bite into, which is a big deal for me when it comes to bánh mì. I ordered the pork combo pan, but I honestly wish I had gone for the sandwich version instead. Their salt coffee was amazing—the best I had on this trip! 🤩 Highly recommend stopping by if you’re in the area. 💗

Living up to expectations. Cripiest bread. Cha Xu is tender. Generous veggies. Loved it. Waiting time is just okay (based on the time I went around 5:40 pm) best banh mi in Hanoi for me. The signature costs 50k which is great coz some of banh mi I tried was 40k-50k which is just grilled skewers with no pate and less veggies. Thumbs up to Banh Mi 25.

Had the BBQ pork Banh mi. The crispy pork belly wasn’t available. I’ve walked past in the afternoon and there were about 50 people waiting. I came in the morning and could get straight in. Bread was hot and crusty, generous pate, fresh cucumber, coriander and chilli which you dont always get at other places. Was definitely the best Banh mi I got. The salted cream coffee was delicious too. Good coffee to cream ratio

Tried this local bánh mì spot and it was already crowded—definitely a good sign! You can see people lining up outside, which says a lot about how popular the place is. We ordered the traditional bánh mì with pork belly and with the sausage. Bread was crispy with savoury filling. I also like the street-style vibe—simple but authentic. You order, wait a bit, then enjoy your freshly made sandwich. The branding “a loaf of smiles” really fits because the whole experience feels very local and genuine. Overall, it’s a great place if you’re looking for a quick, affordable, and satisfying bite. Definitely worth a stop, especially if you’re exploring the area! 🤗

Arrived before 9am on several occasions and manage to get a dine-in table for two within 5-10minutes. We enjoyed their banh mi so much that we visited them three times on our one-week holiday. Recommend their 1, 2, 3 banh mi & if you’re feeling adventurous, try their pate. Their pate is creamy, buttery texture. I don’t even enjoy pork belly but their pork belly banh mi had a good mix of vegetables and pork belly that made the entire dish delicious. Tip: Request to cut your banh mi into half for easier eating Bonus: watermelon juice is fresh
