the quality of the food does not match with the price. It's totally a rip-off. If foreigners first come to Vietnam and have food at this restaurant, they will not realize there are so many better options with reasonable prices which actually reflect the true flavours of Vietnamese cuisine. I was so surprised also when we were at the counter to make the payment, I noticed the Micheline board on the wall. I am not sure why this kind of food quality can obtain the accredited Michelin guide or Michelin people got different tastes. I hope this food quality is not the benchmark for the phenomenal Vietnamese cuisine in general.

Huyền Hương Chicken Phở - Pho restaurant in Hanoi
About This Place
Báo Khánh is one of the Old Quarter's better-known eating streets, and Huyền Hương Chicken Phở has become a fixed point on it — nearly 5,000 Google reviews at a 4.7 rating is not an accident on a street with this much competition. The draw is straightforward: phở gà, chicken pho, executed at a consistent level that keeps a local and tourist mix returning. The broth is the central argument here, the kind that takes hours to build from simmering chicken carcasses and aromatics, clear and golden rather than the murkier beef variant, lighter on the palate and often the preferred morning option among Hanoians. The setting is functional rather than atmospheric — the kind of place where tables turn quickly, service is brisk, and the focus stays on the bowl. That efficiency is part of the appeal for anyone navigating the Old Quarter at peak hours, when finding a seat at a reputable spot without a long wait matters. Its position in Hoàn Kiếm puts it within easy reach of Hoan Kiem Lake and the surrounding streets, making it a logical stop before or after walking the district. What separates it from the generic tourist-facing pho shops nearby is the review depth — close to five thousand opinions converging on a 4.7 average suggests a kitchen that performs reliably rather than occasionally. For visitors specifically looking for phở gà rather than the more commonly exported phở bò, this is a well-documented address in a neighborhood where quality can vary sharply from one storefront to the next.

The atmosphere here is truly exceptional, creating a delightful dining experience from the moment you step in. 🌟 The food is incredibly flavorful and prepared with care, showcasing a high standard of culinary expertise. 🍲 The staff provides impeccable service, always attentive and friendly. I left feeling completely satisfied. 😊
The street side smell of their fresh cooked brown chicken hanging and chicken broth attracted me. Their sitting area is upstairs. Place is clean and nice AC. Their #1 special chicken pho comes with extra brown Ch sicken or mixed with chicken organs, I chose extra chicken. Chicken broth was golden and flavorful. Not too salty and couldn’t detect too much msg. Rice noodles were silky but personally I like more al dente. Chicken portions were bigger, very flavorful. Good quality chicken Pho but you do have to pay close to $8USD.
One of the most famous chicken phở places in the city, often considered a more “upscale” alternative to typical street pho. The setting feels more like a tidy restaurant, with proper chairs and tables and air conditioning. We tried the flagship dish, Special Chicken Pho – a rich chicken broth seasoned with ginger and lemongrass, served with tender chopped chicken parts (thigh, wing and breast). On the side comes quẩy, small fried dough sticks meant for dipping into the soup. The soup is certainly tasty, comforting and well made. However, the price is two to three times higher than at many excellent street pho stalls, and we did not notice a difference in product quality or flavor that would justify such a gap.
One of the more popular spots for a nice bowl of chicken pho. The broth was clear and lovely. But the chicken meat was a little too tough for my liking. I’ve been told (by a local) that the chickens used in Vietnam are typically ‘kampong’ (free range) chicken so the meat is tougher. And this is what I noticed about the chicken meat in most restaurants I’ve been to in Hanoi so far. Nothing wrong with the taste, just didn’t fancy the texture. But the pho was tasty. Extra great when paired with youtiao (fried dough sticks). There’s something about the dough sticks here, they are so crispy yet soft inside, even when put in soup for some time, they don’t get soggy so quickly, and still absorbs the soup. I really love having them soaked in the broth.
