The Story

About This Place

Hàng Mành is one of the calmer streets threading through the Old Quarter, and Lotte Ice Cream & Hanoi Coffee occupies a narrow shophouse there that doubles as a guesthouse. The combination is practical for travelers: a place to sleep, a counter for coffee in the morning, and ice cream when the midday heat off Hoan Kiem Lake becomes a reason to sit still for a while.

The venue draws a mix of budget-conscious visitors working through the Old Quarter's 36 guild streets and locals who know the block. It sits close enough to Hoan Kiem to make it a logical stopping point between the temple causeway and the night market without being on the main tourist drag of Hàng Gai or Đinh Tiên Hoàng, where prices reflect the foot traffic.

With a 4.5 rating across 31 reviews, the experience reads as consistently decent rather than exceptional — the kind of place that earns repeat visits through reliability and location rather than a standout dish or room design. For visitors spending several days based in Hoan Kiem, the combined coffee-and-stay format removes some of the friction of the neighborhood: breakfast downstairs, bags upstairs, and the lake ten minutes on foot.

Brilliant little coffee shop on the side of the street ran by a lovely couple, with the best egg coffee!

Super friendly older couple running a tiny shop with a few seats out front on a quieter street (for the area). I had a banh mi (they went out to get it from somewhere, but it was hot, delicious, and very reasonably priced), cold Bia Ha Noi, and the (pictured) belle of the ball, "Dad's Rice Wine." Served with ice and lime, this is not for the faint of heart. But, if you enjoy a good, strong, local taste of the sauce, come here.

Egg coffee is absolutely phenomenal! Coffee essence was strong and not overly sweet. Coffee was made by a elderly gentleman. Thumbs up! 👍
