Madame Huong - Bakery in Hanoi
About This Place
On Lý Thường Kiệt in Cửa Nam, Madame Huong sits at a practical crossroads between the Old Quarter bustle and the quieter civic streets that locals use to cut across Hoan Kiem. The address puts it close to the Hanoi Opera House corridor and the kind of foot traffic that rewards a café with a steady, mixed crowd—office workers, tourists walking between landmarks, and students seeking somewhere to sit without ceremony.
The format covers three categories: bakery, café, and ice cream shop, which means the menu spans more ground than most single-concept spots in the neighborhood. That range is likely what sustains the volume of reviews—over a thousand, at a 4.0 average—without any single signature item dominating the conversation. Baked goods anchor the case up front, café drinks carry the afternoon, and ice cream gives the venue a reason to draw foot traffic during Hanoi's genuinely brutal summers.
What distinguishes it from the denser, trendier cafés further into the Old Quarter is a certain lack of performance. The setting is functional rather than styled for photographs, which tends to attract repeat visitors over one-time content hunters. A 4.0 across 1,138 reviews suggests consistent execution rather than occasional excellence—the kind of place that doesn't disappoint on a second or third visit. For a neighborhood with no shortage of competing options, that consistency is the actual differentiator.
Reviews
A very good bakery. From India and we loved the varieties available at reasonable prices. We brought all the way to our Home. Try once if you are in the area.
The best boulangerie period! I bought the raisin chocolate bread loaf, a slice of banana cake, coconut tart (very coconutey), and a pain aux raisins. Everything was divine! It’s takeaway only but many cute cafés near by where one can stop for a drink and have those delicacies. The ladies working in the shop are so sweet as well. It’s cash only so plan accordingly :)
Hands down the best pastries to ever enter my mouth!!! Absolutely delicious and so worth it. I think 8 pastries about AUD $15. We totally stuffed ourselves. YUM
I still think about the chocolate mousse I had here. I love this bakery. Everything was fresh and high quality!
