On Mã Mây — one of Hoan Kiem's most walked streets, flanked by heritage shophouses and a steady flow of both locals and visitors — Era Restaurant has accumulated 2,450 Google reviews and a 4.9-star average, a score that puts it among the most consistently praised dining addresses in the Old Quarter. The combination of Vietnamese cuisine and barbecue is a natural draw in this part of the city, where communal eating around a grill suits the neighbourhood's social tempo.

The address at number 48 places it within easy reach of Hoàn Kiếm Lake and the dense cluster of streets that make up the trading quarter, which means foot traffic is constant and reservations during peak evening hours are worth considering. The Vietnamese barbecue format — typically involving marinated meats cooked tableside or over charcoal — suits groups of two or more, and the volume of reviews suggests repeat visitors rather than a one-time tourist draw.

What distinguishes Era from the broader spread of restaurants along this corridor is the rating consistency across a large review base. A 4.9 across more than two thousand reviews is statistically difficult to sustain without reliable execution, which points to kitchen and service consistency rather than a single viral moment. For visitors working through Hoan Kiem's dining options, it sits in a different register from the pho and bún chả counters nearby — more of a sit-down, grill-focused meal than a quick bowl.

Pretty authentic food experience. We ordered three dishes, and considering the atmosphere, quality, and overall dining experience, the price to value ratio was very reasonable. Total came to around 450K VND for three dishes. Definitely worth trying if you’re looking for good authentic local food.

After visiting Beer Street we decided to find somewhere to eat. Just 300 metres away we stumbled upon Era Restaurant. We knew it was going to be good as it was full of locals and we got the last available table downstairs on a Tuesday night. They offer an array of meals from banquet to a la carte. We decided to cook our own on the provided gas burner on the table. It was fantastic. Beef, pork and vegetables cooked by you. Loved it. Also tried the chicken wing in fish sauce. Our server was kind enough to show us how to do it and set it all up for us. So much fun. Finished off with the 3 flavor ice cream and fruit. Just delicious. Also, they supply paper bibs to keep your clothes clean which was fun. Unfortunately, because they were busy the service let them down. But otherwise really enjoyed our dinner.

Amazing meal, best chicken wings of our entire trip. The Pho was also excellent. Great service and great attention to detail with all the flavor combinations.
