The Story

About This Place

On the stretch of Tràng Tiền that runs between Hoan Kiem Lake and the Opera House, this ice cream shop has accumulated over 12,000 Google reviews — a number that places it among the most-reviewed food spots in Hanoi. The 4.4 rating across that volume signals consistency rather than novelty: this is a place people return to, and bring others to, not one they visit on a dare. The address, steps from the lake promenade, means the crowd skews broad — families from the Old Quarter, office workers cutting through after lunch, tourists who've just done the Ngoc Son Temple circuit. The format is simple: a small shop, ice cream served quickly, eaten outside on a street where foot traffic rarely drops. Hoan Kiem has no shortage of dessert options, but few carry this kind of accumulated social proof concentrated on a single address. That the shop's name and street name are identical is either coincidence or legacy — either way, it makes the place easy to find and hard to confuse with anything else. For visitors treating Hoan Kiem as a walkable afternoon, this is a logical stop between the lake and Hang Bai; for locals, it appears to be a standing habit.

After the booking I was waiting some information about arriving, or something like that. We arrived, and noticed, that the entrance to this apartment was going through the restaurant. During the booking I added my credit card details, but at arrival they asked for cash. We had no cash with us. Finally we agreed to pay with paypal, and they charged us $ 20 more, just because we paid by card. First the payment was not working, and the staff said if we can't pay, they will come the next day to take our cash. The apartment was ok, the towels are really smelly, very old, also the bedding was not too clean. By mistake, our payment went through twice, as they were pushing me to pay immediately, so I trieded 4 times. I asked them to check it out, it wasn't so urgent for them, like to get my payment.||Btw: whan the staff come to let us in the apartment, he was sick, not wearing mask. (coughing front of us, even not put their hand....)

classic location that has drawn locals since 1958.. ice cream is ok but more marketing than quality these days. Taro cone was ok but durian and cocoa and soursop were not very good. However, I believe that it is now owned by OHG, Oriented Hospitality Group. That may explain the move to commercial scale food that is standardized but often cheapens the F&B in their operations. witness their Oriental Jade hotel with very uninspiring flat foot offerings.

One of the oldest and good dairy products brand in Vietnam. Easy to order even for foreigners and to get into. Plenty of space to sit and enjoy. I loved the cone ice cream the most. I recommend to everyone including foreigners to give it a try if you come to Hanoi.

A lovely ice cream shop on one of Hanoi's most iconic historic streets, and you can really feel the history of the city here. What impressed me most was the kindness of the staff. I accidentally left a bag behind, and when I came back later, they had kept it for me. I was very relieved and grateful for their honesty and help.

A staple of Hanoi. There's something about eating lime mint popsicles right on the edge of Hoan Kiem Lake that is quintessentially old Hanoi. Extra point for the retro neon sign and the outdoor seating setup. You get your ice cream with a side of the best lake breeze in the city! The packaging still has that beautiful, nostalgic throwback design. Go on weekdays. It would be less crowded, and you won’t have to battle the weekend walking street traffic.
